◆What made you want to study in Japan ?
I have always wanted to pursue higher education abroad in a different environment to expand my knowledge and skills.
As well as I wanted to experience new cultures and things. For the nutrition course, I found Japan would be the best for me.
The longer life expectancy, lowest obesity rate among developed countries, and the school nutrition program in Japan attracted me to study in Japan.
◆What made you decide to attend Koshien University?
I researched universities in Japan that have good nutrition courses and found that Koshien University is one of the oldest universities in Japan that teaches Nutrition courses with specialized knowledge and skills in a friendly environment.
The peaceful and beautiful location of the university also attracted me to join Koshien University.
◆What is the best thing about life in Japan and student life?
I like the green, clean, and tidy environment of Japan. The transportation system is very convenient and punctual.
The university’s surroundings are outstanding. I love to go to the vegetable garden of our university in my free time. Due to the kind, supportive, and cooperative teachers, and staff, I don’t have any difficulties inside the university.
I am happy that I decided to study at Koshien University.
◆(Current) PhD research theme
Nepal is iodine deficient country and goiter was prevalent before iodine supplementation in cooking salt since 1998.
Although goiter disappeared, not only thyroid disorder but also metabolic disorders increase rapidly in Nepalese people, probably due to excess iodine intake and rapid change in eating habits and lifestyle.
As thyroid hormone plays a crucial role in the body’s metabolism, I think that iodine states are interlinked with metabolic disorders.
To obtain hints that will help plan a human-based study in Nepal, I am developing various analytical methods to monitor quantitively metabolic states.
◆What is your dream for the future?
The prevalence of the triple burden of malnutrition (underweight, obesity, micronutrient deficiency) in Nepal is a serious issue.
Therefore, I want to contribute the knowledge and skills I am learning in Japan to improve the nutritional status of Nepalese people.
Also, there is a limited number of evidence-based research in Nepal.
I want to continue to conduct research in the future, which I am learning from my guide teacher, Professor Ishida.
